Learn About Our Response

Child. Family. Community.

Everything we do centres on three interconnected pillars. When one is strengthened, all three benefit.

01

Child

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable, and loving family. We place the child at the centre of everything — their protection, wellbeing, and right to belong.

02

Family

Families are the first line of protection. We strengthen households through economic empowerment, psychosocial support, and parenting skills — keeping families together before crisis hits.

03

Community

We rebuild community support systems — awareness, child protection structures, and networks of care — addressing harmful stigma and promoting social inclusion across Uganda and Africa.

Causes of Child Abandonment

Understanding why abandonment happens is the first step to preventing it permanently.

Family Crises & Breakdown

Poverty, domestic violence, neglect, substance abuse, and lack of parenting support weaken the ability of families to care for their children. Separation happens not out of choice, but as a result of overwhelming hardship.

Community Crises & Conflict

Poverty, unemployment, social stigma, and conflict disrupt traditional family support structures. Displacement and weakened social networks leave families isolated, increasing the likelihood of children being abandoned.

Over-Reliance on Institutionalised Care

Orphanages have unintentionally contributed to abandonment. Many families place children in institutions believing they will receive better care — yet most have living relatives, and institutionalisation often replaces family-based care.
